We provide solutions across markets ranging from Energy (Renewables, Smart Metering, Oil & Gas) to Industrial, Life Sciences, and Medical. We have been delivering electronics and software solutions for over two decades, and work with our sister company Wideblue to deliver complete products including mechanics and optics. As part of the Pivot International group, we cover the full product development cycle, including proof-of-concept to prototype to full production.

Job Description:

We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Electronics Engineer to develop innovative products for our customers, in markets ranging from Smart Metering, Oil & Gas, to Life Sciences and Medical. This is a high-profile opportunity for you to demonstrate your talent in a fast-paced technical environment.

We have been delivering electronic design solutions for more than a decade, including proof-of-concept to prototype to full production. Working in design services the role offers customer contact. The aspect our team enjoy most is the variety of work – the role involves a broad range of technically demanding projects, and the opportunity to develop initial ideas into real tangible products in short timescales.

Essential Technical skills:

  • 10+ years’ experience developing electronic systems
  • Schematic capture, PCB design, simulation
  • Digital and analogue system design
  • Microcontroller system design
  • Flexibility to interpret a variety of datasheets, protocol documents, design specifications

 

Criteria:

  • Enjoy problem solving and working in a fast-paced, team-based technical environment
  • Possess strong communication skills; both internal and customer facing
  • Investigate, develop and utilise new technologies, components and techniques, processes and tools
  • Be comfortable creating customer-ready documentation and reports
  • Regularly use your analogue and digital electronics skills to design, build and test complex electronics modules

 

The following skills are an advantage:

  • Altium schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Design experience with system interconnects RS232, USB, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet etc.
  • Power supply design
  • High speed digital design
  • Wireless modules/RF experience (e.g. Wifi, BLE/Bluetooth, RFID)
  • Design experience with FPGAs, CPLDs and DSPs
  • Verification of prototypes and transfer to manufacture
  • EMC testing, failure analysis
  • Experience of highly regulated development processes, e.g. medical devices, ATEX

 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering or related subject.

Essential Technical skills:

  • 3+ years’ experience of developing embedded / real-time systems
  • Strong Modern C++ and C skills, gained in a commercial environment
  • Linux system development (e.g. Yocto, Debian)
  • 16 and 32-bit microcontrollers (e.g. ARM, PIC, MSP430, DSP)
  • Standard buses and protocols (e.g. Ethernet, USB, RS232, I2C, SPI)
  • Embedded control of wireless modules (e.g. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LoRa, NFC)
  • Experience of a variety of development environments and tools
  • Development of high quality code and adherence to best coding practices
  • Software problem-solving and bug-fixing

Criteria:

  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced technical environment
  • Possess strong communication skills; both internal and customer facing
  • Use and understand appropriate methodologies to design, build and test complex systems
  • Create customer-readable documentation, test results and reports

  • RTOS experience (e.g. FreeRTOS)
  • Object-oriented design
  • Windows development and C#

Join Our Team

We are seeking an experienced Motor Control Expert Software Engineer to join our team on a project focused on developing advanced electronic control systems for precision movement and load handling in demanding environments. The role involves designing, implementing, and validating embedded software to meet stringent safety and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain embedded software for electronic control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with functional safety standards (ISO 13849) and relevant regulations.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate software with control hardware.
  • Conduct software validation and verification, including unit and integration testing.
  • Support compliance activities for EMC, FCC, and CE marking requirements.
  • Prepare technical documentation for software design and validation.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in embedded software development for safety-critical systems.
  • Proven experience in motor control design in hydraulic and Sepex motors
  • Experience with CAN bus, serial communication protocols, and hardware interfaces.
  • Expert in C/C++ for microcontrollers and real-time systems.
  • Knowledge of functional safety principles and standards (ISO 13849 or IEC 61508).
  • Experience with CAN bus, serial communication protocols, and hardware interfaces.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and software development lifecycle tools and processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent ability to break down task estimates and a strong willingness to drive projects to completion
  • Familiar with waterfall/Agile development process
  • Problem solving and trouble-shooting capabilities
  • 7 years + working as an embedded engineer
  • A background in electronics, possibly from degree education

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Electronics (or equivalent).
  • Experience with RTOS and embedded development tools.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 quality systems and risk assessment methodologies.

Desirable

  • Good understanding of cyber security principles and technologies foe embedded systems
  • Knowledge of MISRA C guidelines and coding standards for safety-critical software.

  • Functional Safety certification (e.g., TÜV) highly desirable.
